Besbrode Pianos and Decca Records proudly presents… Working Classical Hero
Get ready to be inspired by Ellis Arey, the breakout star from Channel 4’s The Piano, alongside one of Britain's best-loved comedians and impressionists Alistair McGowan, in a very special, free event.
The event will bring together two remarkable musicians from very different generations for a candid discussion about talent, resilience, opportunity and the transformative power of music.
Talent development is the lifeblood of Decca Records, home to Abbey Road Studio, made famous by The Beatles. The label recently signed 24-year-old Ellis, a classical musician (and boxer), who sees piano as a, “universe of complex emotions”. From his humble beginnings on a council estate to studying at Leeds Conservatoire, his story of triumph, which was also profiled in a Sky Arts film, is nothing short of extraordinary.
Alistair McGowan, best know for his BAFTA winning television series The Big Impression, his work on Spitting Image and a career spanning comedy, theatre, broadcasting and writing, Alistair has also become an acclaimed concert pianist, with his debut classical album reaching number one in the UK Classical Charts.
Join us for an hour of music and conversation. Ellis will perform a selection of pieces, interspersed with questions led by Alistair. The conversation will explore the realities of growing up without privilege, overcoming barriers and finding confidence through music. There will be a 15 minute segment at the end for Q & A where audience members can pose their questions and gain real-world advice. So bring your questions along!
Please note: This event will be filmed by Decca Records
